Distance sales in Germany reflect positive situation for eCommerce

Distance shopping will continue to reflect positive figures in 2010, and it will do so in large part spurred on by the positive situation currently enjoyed by the online sales sector, according to a study by the German Federal Remote Trade Association (BVH) in collaboration with the market search company TNS Infratest, reports Acquisa.

Distance sales will increase this year by 2.7% to €29.9 billion. German consumers will spend an average of €365 shopping through remote channels. In 2009, the average was €354. Within the sector, electronic commerce will be the strongest, growing in 2010 by 15% compared to 2009. The volume of online sales will reach €24.3 billion.

The BVH and TNS Infratest report shows that electronic commerce is spurring on the remote sales sector. "Online shops have saved distance sales from going under", says BVH Chairman Thomas Lipke.

As regards the new digital sales channels, such as the social networks, Lipke says that the remote vendors are giving them a chance. "In any case, it is difficult to take new social media users to the online shops", the BVH chairman explains.

Meanwhile, in 2010, just like last year, consumers will invest in distance shopping primarily for clothes, footwear and electronic devices.
