Owners of virtual stores in China will have to provide personal information, including real names and addresses, to electronic commerce authorities before setting up their businesses online, according to a new regulation that came into effect on Thursday.
The regulation issued by the country's industry and trade administration, and which is the first in China for online transactions in goods and services, specifies the obligations of owners of online stores and e-Commerce agents. It also gives details about the authorities' administration of virtual stores. Businesses that do not comply with the regulation can be fined up to 30,000 Yuan (approximately 3,273 Euros).
The Civil Liability Act will also come into effect on Thursday, which will enable compensation for psychological damages and an assessment of the total amount. It also provides better protection of personal privacy by creating liability for unauthorized filtering of personal data.
