According to a survey by the online shopping service website Taobao, Chinese Internet users spent around 15 billion yuan (€ 1.8 billion) on foreign luxury items in 2011.
Buyers were most active in Shanghai, Beijing and Hangzhou, where the majority of shipments were sent and the most money spent.
The results of the survey show that the Chinese buy these products online either because they are limited edition items that can only be acquired that way, or because they are not available in China.
