A desire to better understand why the uptake of e-business by SMEs in New Zealand remains consistently low relative to some of New Zealand's major trading partners including the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, resulted in a May 2002 E-readiness survey commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Development followed in 2003, by a series of focus groups facilitated by Trade NZ with representative New Zealand businesses.
